What can aggression be good for?

A better question is—what cannot it not be good for? All creativity—-artistic, intellectual, even biological—-involves an element of aggression. It is only when aggression is expressed in a purely animalistic way that it is bad—and even then it isn’t necessarily bad. (Sometimes it is right to fight or to engage heated intercourse.) Aggression isn’t necessarily destructive or driven by ill will. It is only when aggression has a purely negative aim that it is bad.
